Department of Literature, Language, Writing, and Philosophy
The humanities major offers students a broadly-based liberal arts education and an integrated interdisciplinary experience built around two seminars taken in the junior and senior years, respectively. The other major courses may be chosen from introductory and advanced-level offerings in literature, history, philosophy, the visual and performing arts, and culture courses in modern languages. The seminars offer intensive interdisciplinary study of themes and historical periods.

Majors will complete a total of 33 credits that include 6 credits of humanities seminars, 9 credits of introductory courses and18 credits of advanced humanities courses.
Three courses from the following list, each from a different discipline.
Select from 2000-, 3000- and 4000-level offerings in art, history, literature, music, philosophy, theater and film studies. No more than 6 credits in a single discipline. (Visual and performing arts studio courses and ENGW English writing courses do not fulfill this requirement.)
