Major Commitment to FDU

President’s Update - January 24, 2005

Dear Members of the University Community,

Last spring, I was pleased to announce the University’s first million-dollar gift in more than a decade. That contribution from John Monninger, an alumnus, and his wife Joan will be used to advance the College at Florham Library. Today, it gives me great pleasure to once again announce a major commitment to Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Our benefactors this time are Anthony J. Petrocelli, Class of ’69 in Madison, the newest member of the Board of Trustees, and his wife, Antoinette. The Petrocellis have made a lifetime commitment to Fairleigh Dickinson University of $4 million. In recognition of their generosity, the University will rename the New College of General and Continuing Studies the Anthony J. Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies. That honor is particularly appropriate because Tony Petrocelli has long been passionate about lifelong learning and creating opportunities for nontraditional students. He began his studies at FDU as a part-time evening student.

We are, of course, honored and delighted that the Petrocellis have chosen to invest in FDU. Yet, their incredible commitment would not have occurred were it not for the wonderful education and opportunities that Tony received while attending our University. The Petrocelli gift is a tribute to all faculty and staff who continue to touch the lives of our students in very special ways — ways that reap amazing benefits for the University long after graduation. If we continue to do what we do best, enriching the lives of our many diverse students, we will surely achieve even greater success in the years to come.

Thank you.
