Requirements

FDU Motorcycle Safety Education Program



Please note: Participation does not guarantee successful completion. Students may be removed if they can not meet the objectives of riding exercises and will not be eligible for a refund. ALL RIDERCOACH DECISIONS REGARDING SAFETY ARE FINAL.


Basic RiderCourse (BRC) and
Additional Riding BRC (A-BRC)

  • Students must hold a current validated motorcycle permit and have passed the written and eye exam dates within two years of course end-date, or have a current motorcycle endorsement.* Your permit must have a holographic sticker or stamp on the reverse side. You must renew your permit at MVC if it expires before course end-date. NO EXCEPTIONS, THIS IS A STATE LAW.
  • Ability to ride a bicycle.
  • If you are under 5' tall, please visit your local motorcycle shop to be sure both your feet touch the ground when seated on a 125cc or 250cc motorcycle.
  • Notarized parental consent if under the age of 18.

We Supply Motorcycles and Helmets
Please bring with you:

  • Over the ankle footwear (broken-in), leather preferable, rising a minimum of one inch above the ankle bone.
  • DOT approved eye protection.
  • Long sleeve jacket or shirt.
  • Long pants of durable material. Material MUST be free of defects. Sweatpants, slacks, jogging suits and flared pants are NOT acceptable.
  • Full-fingered gloves. we STRONGLY recommend leather.
  • Rain gear, since classes run rain or shine.
  • Students without proper riding gear will be dismissed.
  • Snacks and beverages.
  • Prompt, 100% attendance, in the order the curriculum is presented. Late students WILL be dismissed (see Cancellation Policy).

Additional Riding BRC (A-BRC)

  • Must have taken a BRC at FDU, regardless of passing, in the past 12 months.
  • Retesting students must provide FDU with
    • Date of BRC (Within 180 days of A-BRC)
    • Knowledge Test scores 
    • A-BRC Retest Voucher to enter class
  • Same requirements as BRC, listed above.

Experienced RiderCourses
(ERC1 PRACTICE and ERC2 SKILLS PLUS)

  • Driver's License with a Motorcycle endorsement.
  • Your own motorcycle. If borrowed, must present written note signed by the owner, authorizing its use for the MSF course.
  • Current motorcycle insurance, registration and inspection.
  • A mechanically sound motorcycle with properly inflated tires and fully charged battery. *
  • DOT approved helmet with visor or eye protection.
  • All protective gear as listed above (in BRC). Students without proper riding gear will be dismissed.
  • Prompt, 100% attendance, in the order the curriculum is presented. Late students WILL be dismissed (see Cancellation Policy).
  • Rain gear, snacks and beverages.

    NOTE: Riders must successfully achieve the objectives of Exercise 1, Control at Low Speed, in order to continue. They must also successfully achieve the objectives of subsequent exercises in order to complete the course. ERC2 SKILLS PLUS: If in the experience of the RiderCoach, the Rider is not experienced enough to carry a passenger, they will be required to complete the riding solo. Passengers participating in the course must not adversely affect the safety and learning for other participants in the program.

    * ERC students will receive a motorcycle inspection list after registration, outlining the operation condition with which the motorcycle must comply. If, according to MSF standards, the motorcycle is in an unsafe state of repair, the student will not be allowed to continue with the program, nor will be eligible for a refund.
    Please check tire pressure COLD before riding to your course.
  • Read ERC Classroom cards and T-Clocs Inspections prior to class (see "Library" at www.msf-usa.org)

FDU Motorcycle Safety Education Program reserves all rights to schedule and rate changes. All minors must provide witnessed written parental approval. This site is to be used as a guideline. Please call 201-692-6500 for most current information.

FDU Motorcycle Safety Education Program has been approved by the MVC Director of Driver Testing, to offer the NJ Motorcycle Safety Education courses.
