Dear Members of the University Community,
As you know, we have worked diligently this year to fill the new position of University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. This person will be the chief academic officer of the University and will also serve as the chief operating officer during times when I am called away from the office.
Finding the right person for this critical role is certainly a challenge. The search committee worked closely with a consulting firm, Auerbach Associates, to identify senior academic leaders who might match our needs. Four candidates for the position were interviewed in February and made presentations on our two New Jersey campuses, which many of you attended.
While each candidate brought to the table significant experiences and excellent skills, after carefully reviewing the recommendations and input from the University community, I have decided to continue the search to find a person whose strengths are more tailored to the University’s unique needs at this time.
Our search committee, in coordination with Auerbach Associates, is further reviewing the original pool of applications as well as those that were received after the initial interviews were scheduled. One or more of these candidates may be brought to campus for interviews and presentations.
We will notify the community of such presentations, and I again urge you to attend. I thank all who participated in the last round of presentations and appreciate the input and interest shown by so many members of the community.
We still may be able to hire the University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs by July 1, 2005, but more important than meeting this timeline is ensuring that we find the most suitable person possible for this important position.
