Dear Members of the University Community,
Yesterday, we enjoyed a heartwarming celebration as we dedicated the Anthony J. Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies. I was very pleased to see so many members of the community on hand to honor Tony and his family for their commitment to Fairleigh Dickinson University. From the trustees and faculty who showed their support to the staff members who handled the arrangements to the students in the International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management who prepared the reception's savory dishes, everyone on hand contributed something special to the event. I thank you all.
I know Tony greatly appreciated the celebration. A very successful entrepreneur and now a member of the University Board of Trustees, Tony is a special person who possesses a deep passion for education and lifelong learning. I was particularly touched when he discussed how important his FDU education was to him. He recalled how he was looking for a school that was willing to take a chance on him. He spoke of faculty and administrators who supported him. And he spoke of the opportunities he was afforded because of his time here. His story reinforced for me the powerful role we can play in the lives of our students.
As I said at the dedication, I am confident that Tony's and his wife Ann's $4-million commitment will prove to be an inspiring example that will not only help shape the Petrocelli College, but this University's future and its philanthropic programs for years to come.
All of his success and now his gift to the University, though, would not be possible if Tony did not meet people here who cared about him and guided him. That has proven to be all the difference for Tony and for so many others. The University is not an abstract entity, it is a dynamic community made up of many devoted individuals who continue to make a difference. Thank you for everything you do to contribute to our vital mission.
Sincerely,
Michael Adams
