Earlier this year, I talked at length with Acting Gov. Richard Codey about ways that Fairleigh Dickinson University could help reinforce key state programs, particularly the governor’s initiative to create safer, more secure schools.
After we put together a proposal that aligns one of our strengths with this important statewide priority, I am pleased to announce the award of a $350,000 capital improvements grant from the New Jersey Department of the Treasury.
These funds will be used to construct administrative offices, computer labs and a conference room in Dickinson Hall to house the School Security and Safety Administration Certificate Program. This unique program offers school administrators and personnel critical courses in emergency management, improved leadership and communication skills and resource planning.
The program is now available at several off-site locations and through a distance-learning component. Once construction is complete, it also will be offered at the Metropolitan Campus.
I want to thank Kenneth Vehrkens, dean of the Anthony J. Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies, who drafted the proposal, and the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects, which provided key technical assistance.
With this funding and the recent grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for our certificate program in computer science and forensic administration, the University’s Petrocelli College has recently garnered nearly $850,000 in federal and state aid!
Thank you.
