President’s Update – December 15, 2005 – Major Commitments

I am very pleased to report that the University’s fund-raising momentum has continued through the first half of this academic year with several new major commitments dedicated to campus improvements, scholarships and the ongoing Campaign for the Libraries of FDU.

  •     $500,000 to endow a scholarship for graduate students in entrepreneurial studies from alumna Patricia Wisniewski (BS’77), vice president, National Retail Systems, Inc.
  •     $500,000 for Learning Across Boundaries, the campaign to renovate and rebuild the University libraries, from Fred Hassan, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Schering-Plough Corporation, and his wife, Noreen.
  •     $300,000 to renovate and create new chemistry laboratories at the College at Florham from Schering-Plough. The grant is over five years and will provide three research labs for medicinal chemistry, and organic and bioorganic materials.
  •     $290,000 for a new indoor track at the Rothman Center, Metropolitan Campus, from alumna Mary Kay Mastronardy Stratis (BA’69, MAT’71), a member of the University’s Board of Trustees.

The involvement of the University community is making a tremendous difference in our ability to provide donors and friends with meaningful opportunities for engagement and philanthropy. Each of these four major donations was brought about with the assistance of a faculty or staff member working in conjunction with a member of the Office of University Advancement.

Together, we will continue to make great things happen through philanthropy.
