"Crossing Boundaries I: Literature, Art & Culture"
FDU-Vancouver hosted its first annual "Crossing Boundaries" symposium on September 1, 2010. Crossing Boundaries - national, ethnic, political, linguistic, or ideological boundaries - is common in our increasily cosmopolitan and international world. Such crossing also entail both conflict and understanding, struggles, and growth. This series of symposia provides a venue to discuss the various crossing in academic, civic, and professional contexts - it also presents research, community, and professional work taking place in Vancouver to an international audience. Attending the symposium via ITV were Dr. William Moore, Dean of the Silberman Business College and Dr. Patti Mills, Dean of the University College, as well as students, staff and faculty on campus in Vancouver.
The Introduction and Welcome was performed by Dr. J. Michael Adams, President of Fairleigh Dickinson University. Speakers and topices included Dr. James Gifford, Assistant Professor of English and Director of the University Core at FDU-Vancouver on Remediation and V for Vendetta: Textual Studies v. Cultural Studies; Dr Orion Ussner Kidder, Adjunct Professor on Reading Pictures, Viewing Words: How Comics Mean; Ms. Lindsay Parker, Adjunct Lecturer on (Im)Personal Landscape: Bitter Lemons and The Tree of Idleness on Cyprus; Dr. Gudrun Dreher, Adjunct Professor on More Than One Song: Some Observations about Poetry & Music; and Campus Provost, Dr Cecil A.
