Celebration of Faculty Books

March 10, 2006

The FDU faculty includes many strong and productive scholars, but their work is little known by the larger university community, or even among their campus colleagues. To address this situation while celebrating the community’s scholarship, the Office of the University Provost is initiating, in collaboration with University Library, a celebration of recent books published by FDU faculty.

The event will be held in the Orangérie of the Library at the College at Florham on Wednesday, April 19, from 2:30 to 5:00 pm.

The celebration will honor all books published in 2003 and since. A brochure listing and describing the books is being prepared to preserve the event, and we need the help of the authors. Please send to University Librarian James Marcum (marcum@fdu.edu), at either main library, a copy of the book, or at least a dust cover, for the display as soon as possible, but no later than March 23.

Also include a brief (50 word) description of the work and, if available, a comment on the work from a reviewer. This information is often available on the dust jacket or in the publisher’s promotional literature, and may be available electronically from your publisher.

Below is the list of books we know about.  Please review to see what we have left out and forward any omissions to James Marcum at once.

All the books will be on display at the Celebration and each author will have a few minutes to comment on “how I got it published” or whatever she or he wants to share about the book.

Wine and Cheese, of course.

I hope this will be the first of an annual series of book celebrations that will highlight the intellectual life of the faculty.

Please put this celebration on your calendar, and send missing books to Dr. Marcum ASAP.

A note from Dr. Marcum: “University Library would appreciate receiving a copy of any works, or preferably two for both libraries, that we do not yet own. To have the work cataloged and available in university libraries is important in promoting the use, status, and sales, of the work, so consider donating your display copy after the event.”
