President’s Update – February 5, 2007 – FDU NOW/Stratis Dedication

Dear Members of the University Community,

The cover says it all, “The Time is Now.” I’m sure many of you have seen the latest edition of FDU Magazine, and I hope you read the cover story focusing on FDU NOW, our exciting capital campaign.

This historic campaign will fulfill key strategic needs by providing funds for the University’s endowment, scholarships, athletics, global education, the Fund for FDU, the renovation of the Student Union Building at the Metropolitan Campus and the creation of the Monninger Center for Learning and Research at the College at Florham.

Our accomplishments in recent years have built a strong foundation, but we are poised to do so much more. I am confident the excitement and momentum generated by this campaign will enable us to attain a greater level of excellence and distinction.

The campaign is off to a tremendous start, and early commitments total approximately $24 million. The campaign goal will be publicly announced this fall, and we expect to run the campaign through 2010.

As we proceed, we will plan several events to celebrate key milestones. One such event will take place this Friday evening when we will dedicate the arena in the Rothman Center in honor of Mary Kay Stratis. A great friend, a loyal alumnus and a key member of the Board of Trustees, Mary Kay has devotedly supported Fairleigh Dickinson for many years. Among other wonderful efforts, she created the Elia G. Stratis Endowed Scholarship to help FDU students and honor the memory of her husband, Elia, who was also an FDU alumnus and member of the Board of Trustees. She also contributed to the renovation of the Stratis Lounge in the Rothman Center. Mary Kay’s campaign gift enabled us to replace the running track and undertake other upgrades at the facility. A brief halftime ceremony will be held during the men’s basketball game against St. Francis (N.Y.) to commemorate the new Stratis Arena. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

I hope to see you during the game, and I look forward to working together with you to ensure the success of FDU NOW.

Thank you
Michael Adams
