Dear Members of the University Community,
I am very pleased to congratulate Professor of English Lois Gordon, whose newly published book Nancy Cunard: Heiress, Muse, Political Idealist (Columbia UP) was highly praised on the cover of Sunday’s New York Times Book Review.
It is a rare tribute indeed for a university press book to gain such acclaim, and Lois’ latest work is already in its fourth printing. In this remarkable biography, Lois reveals the incredible life of Nancy Cunard, heir to the British Cunard shipping fortune. Beautiful, brilliant and artistic, Cunard became a poet, publisher, activist and journalist. With literary sensibility and a historian’s insight, Lois offers a groundbreaking revelation of a glamorous but self-destructive humanist. There is already interest in the movie rights to this tale.
