President’s Update – May 8, 2007 – Hennessy Hall Dedication
Dear Members of the University Community,
I was thrilled to see so many members of the University community yesterday as we dedicated Hennessy Hall at the College at Florham in honor of alumnus, former board chairman, trustee emeritus and benefactor Ed Hennessy. This was a wonderful event celebrating a special individual and a special time in the University’s history.
Ed and his wife, Ruth, have made a very significant contribution — a $2.1 million commitment — to FDU NOW, the University’s most ambitious campaign ever (and our first since 1997). The campaign is still in its early stages, but there is tremendous momentum. Thanks to such pivotal votes of confidence from distinguished individuals like Ed Hennessy, the campaign has impressively garnered more than $25 million!
Ed expressed his profound thanks for the education he received at FDU. That education, he said, opened many doors for him and paved the way for the great success he enjoyed, culminating in his being named chair and CEO of AlliedSignal. Like other key supporters, his commitment not only contributes to important aspects of campus life, but it also inspires and motivates other friends and benefactors to join the effort.
I cannot thank the University community enough for its dedication to and support of the campaign. Whether you realize it or not, you all play a vital role in this campaign. When I visit prospects and encourage them to support our University, I share the stories of our successes — stories that our faculty and our staff have made possible and that you have shared with me. Everyone I meet is awed by your accomplishments.
Thank you for everything you do for our students. I look forward to seeing you at commencement next week, when we will celebrate the achievements of another extraordinary class.
