President’s Update – Interim University Provost – July 26, 2007

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joseph Kiernan as the interim University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective August 1.

Joe has served the University well in a multitude of positions over the past three decades: as an outstanding teacher on both New Jersey campuses, as a faculty leader and as a skilled administrator. He has been President of the Academic Senate, Chairman of the University Academic Standards and Policies Committee, Chairman of the Faculty Handbook Committee, Associate Dean of Silberman College at the College at Florham, Tri-Campus Coordinator of Finance Programs, Undergraduate Academic Director and Chairman of the President’s Task Force on Institutional Governance. Joe has served as Metropolitan Campus Provost since 2003. In that role he has led the development of new programs and improved facilities and the implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan.

I am very grateful that an individual of his talents and dedication has agreed to accept this important position.

During this interim period, College at Florham Provost Kenneth Greene will continue to report directly to me, but work closely with Joe. Responsibilities in the Office of the Metropolitan Campus Provost will be announced in the near future.

We do plan on conducting a search for a permanent University Provost. However, before that, we will spend the time to re-evaluate the position to determine the best alignment of responsibilities within the complexities of our multi-campus, growing institution.

I have great confidence that Joe Kiernan will not only maintain our progress, but also help accelerate our momentum. Please join me in congratulating Joe and offering our support and our best wishes for success.

Thank you,
Michael Adams
