President’s Update — August 8, 2005 — Mark P. Campbell

I regret to announce that Senior Vice President for Strategic, International and Government Affairs and Executive Associate Dean of the Anthony J. Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies Mark P. Campbell has decided to resign from the University, effective August 31.

Mark is an outstanding leader whose “outside-the-box” approach to solving problems will be missed. Since joining the University in 2000, he has used his significant expertise working with federal, state and local governments and authorities and helped us secure valuable support and funds. Collaborating with his colleagues here at FDU, he has kept the University’s initiatives in front of both federal and state government officials and passionately pursued government monies for programs in line with University priorities. Mark also founded Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind Poll, an innovative University and private-sector partnership, which, thanks to the hard work of our colleagues, brings a wide array of positive national media exposure to the University.

Mark’s efforts have been rewarded with several significant grants, the most prominent being a $3.9-million grant from the state of New Jersey to help fund the University’s groundbreaking online-learning initiatives. Also, the U.S. Congress, through Department of Defense appropriations, has provided four $500,000 grants totaling $2 million in support of online programs that are available for U.S. National Guard personnel and others interested in homeland security issues. Overall, since Mark has joined the University, FDU has received nearly $8 million in state and federal support, in addition to regular state aid to the University.

Also, through the close partnerships Mark has developed with various government and private sector leaders and organizations, the University has been able to provide new and innovative academic programs as well as greater services for our students. Mark has been a key member of our administration and his contributions will prove to be long-lasting and provide a launching pad from which we will reach new heights.

Mark and his wife, Eva, are together reentering the international and national consulting arena, where they previously established a leading public relations and political consulting firm with clients including Fortune 500 corporations, national associations and candidates for national and statewide offices as well as pro-democracy candidates overseas. Please join me in thanking Mark for his critical efforts on behalf of the University and wishing him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Thank you
Michael Adams
