President’s Update – September 5, 2007 — PublicMind Faculty Research

Dear Colleagues,

Since its inception in 2001, FDU’s PublicMind has grown into a well-respected source of original data and research in public opinion. As you may know, PublicMind surveys have been widely reported, from The New York Times to the San Francisco Chronicle, from C-SPAN to CNN, and from NPR to The Sopranos. And faculty experts have been featured providing commentary on survey findings. What you may not know is that the PublicMind is also a powerful tool for our faculty to gather original data for research purposes.

Last year, PublicMind provided three of our faculty — Roger Koppl and Jim Hutton in Silberman College and Bruce Peabody in Becton College — the opportunity to ask specific research questions. These faculty questions, ranging from three to eight in number, were added to surveys that PublicMind conducted on related issues. PublicMind will continue this faculty support during the coming year. This is a marvelous opportunity for faculty to take advantage of a rare and powerful resource!

If you are interested in this possibility, contact Peter Woolley at woolley@fdu.edu for more information. In the meantime, you can get a sense of the range of work PublicMind has been doing by visiting http://publicmind.fdu.edu.

Thank you,
Michael Adams
