The school offers a major in English language and literature with a concentration in English language and literature or writing. The University’s basic core curriculum normally requires two semesters of English of all students, including ENGL1101, ENGL1102 English Composition I, II.
Competency in reading, writing and speaking is expected in courses throughout the University. Students revealing serious deficiencies will be assigned to appropriate courses. Students planning to major in English language and literature are required to complete the liberal arts core curriculum and 36 credits in either literature or writing. Qualified students may complete part of their undergraduate degree requirements at Wroxton College in England.
Foundation courses for all advanced literature study in English should be taken during the sophomore year or in the fifth semester at the latest. (This regulation will be relaxed for students who either transfer to Fairleigh Dickinson University or change their major to English in the junior year.)
