This 38-credit master's degree in learning disabilities is for licensed teachers with experience in special education settings who wish to develop skills for diagnosing learning difficulties and planning instructional programs for pupils from preschool through grades 12.
Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible for certification as Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC), the certification required by the state of New Jersey's Department of Education for serving in the LDTC capacity on a Child Study Team.
Fairleigh Dickinson University's program is accredited by Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). Program resources include the opportunity for placement at the University's own on-site Center for Clinical Teaching; an affiliation with Hackensack University Medical Center; and practicum experience at St. Rose of Lima School in Newark, N.J.
Admissions Process
All candidates who want to be considered for admission must meet the following criteria:
Evidence of a standard teaching license and three (3) years teaching experience. A Master’s degree is also required for the non-degree LDTC certification
Transcripts with a minimum 3.0 GPA
Two (2) letters of recommendation
Evidence of successful completion of Praxis Exam

*The Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) certification program requires these four asterisked courses to be taken at Fairleigh Dickinson toward 30 credits of graduate course work stipulated by the State of New Jersey for the LDTC certification. Other graduate work also may qualify toward the credits required by the state.
