Tri-Beta is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of Biological Study by extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Tri-Beta also contributes to the community of Fairleigh Dickinson by participating in different neighborhood service projects both on and off campus. Meetings are held alternate Tuesdays in Dickinson Hall: Room 1106 at 4:30 PM. On the Metropolitan Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), Tri-Beta serves as an umbrella organization to all the School of Natural Sciences (SONS) clubs. Tri-Beta itself is a national club which is comprised of four different groups. The biology group supports students interested in pursuing biological research. The chemistry group supports students interested in pursuing chemical research. The marine biology group supports students interested in pursuing marine biology research. The Pre-Health Professional (PHP) club group supports students interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences or attending a professional school. The induction ceremony is held once a year during the spring semester for those students who meet the 3.2 science GPA requirement, have no grade lower than a B in the sciences, and pay their membership dues. For more information please contact Royce Rajan at rrajan@student.fdu.edu. The Pre-Health Professional Club (PHP) provides information and guidance to students who have a desire to learn about health professions or enter any pre-professional school including but not limited to Dentistry, Medicine, Chiropractic, Optometry, Pharmacy, Podiatry or Veterinary Medicine. PHP also arranges tours to local Professional Schools for students who seek admission or application information and would like to visit the campus. The club sponsors a variety of programs such as ‘Meet the Professors’ , where students get to interact with the professors of the science department on a more personal level. PHP also arranges field trips to various places in order to enrich members’ scientific understanding. Past trips included the Bodies Exhibit in NYC, the Liberty Science Center, and the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia. PHP also participates in community service events such as the Annual Breast Cancer Walk. Additionally, every year PHP hosts free MCAT/DAT/OAT/PCAT Kaplan testing to give students a preview of the various standardized admissions tests. One of PHP's more recent goals is to help students do hospital observations, where they can shadow doctors and observe surgeries. General Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis at 4:30 pm in Room 1106. Various admissions officers from professional schools attend these meetings to inform students of various opportunities and the admissions requirements of their respective schools. General meetings also include seminars on Summer Enrichment Programs, Interview Preparation, and advice for preparing for admissions exams. For more information on any of these clubs, please contact Dr. Anastasia, the Tri-Beta advisor (201) 692-2526 or Dr. Leonida, the Pre-professional advisor (201) 692-2338.
