Sponsored by Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey Neurological Institute, and Scientific Advantage LLC, this seminar will be held at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, Madison, NJ, on Monday, October 31, 2005.
The seminar focus is the Baby Boom Generation, the group of Americans born between 1946 and 1964. According to Dr. Diane Wentworth, Fairleigh Dickinson University professor and chair of the department of psychology, “This generation is notable for representing the largest single growth of the population in the history of the United States. As this group approaches later adulthood, they will need to be counseled as they confront the new challenges that await them. As a result, there is an urgency to educate professionals and caregivers about the need for research and development in the field of gerontological psychology.”
A high demand for mental health professionals specifically trained to counsel the aging and their family members is projected.
Topics include “Never Too Old For Sex,” “Lifting the Clouds of Depression in the Aging: Proactive Methods,” "The Right Diagnosis," and a panel presentation on "Lifestyle Adjustments." The day will conclude with an interactive opportunity for the presenters and the audience to engage in a thought exchange on how to counsel the aging. The cost for the seminar is $150 for professionals and $75 for students, which includes a continental breakfast and a light lunch. The seminar will begin at 8:45 a.m. with registration and end at approximately 4:00 p.m. Each attendee will receive 0.5 Continuing Education Units (equivalent to 5 contact hours) and a Certificate of Completion Award.
