Creative Writing and Literature for Educators MA
The MA in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators is the first graduate program in the nation to focus on the needs of high school teachers who teach both creative writing and literature.
The program inspires teachers to develop their understanding of how literary works are generated and crafted, through close reading of literary texts from a writer's point of view, and workshops focused on the student's own creativity. In so doing, the program will enhance graduates’ abilities to teach both creative writing and literature.
The program combines a 3-day weekend residency with on-line coursework.
During the three-day residency (in late June), students live on campus where they meet with instructors and participate in activities such as lectures, critical workshops, generative workshops, panel discussions, analysis seminars, and readings.Subsequent coursework is completed through on-line correspondence with instructors and instructor-led on-line workshops and discussions
The low-residency aspect of the program allows students to enroll who would not be able to attend a traditional, full-time graduate program because of work or other obligations. The low-residency/on-line model not only provides flexibility through asynchronous coursework but also enables students to receive individual feedback from readers and writers throughout the country as well as on-line commentary from other students.
