Hurricane Irene

Academic Calendar Revised

Revisions have been posted to the current Academic Calendar to accommodate the delays imposed by Hurricane Irene. Make-up of classes missed on Monday, August 29, will occur on Tuesday, October 18 (which will follow a Monday class schedule), and make-up of classes missed August 30 and 31 will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 13 and 14. Therefore, one day of Fall Recess (Tuesday, October 18) has been eliminated, and two additional class days, December 13 and 14, have been added to the fall calendar, which will end two days later than originally planned. Final exams and the fall semester will end on December 22.

New Jersey Campuses on Normal Schedule Tuesday

Faculty and staff resumed normal work schedules on Tuesday, August 30 at College at Florham and Metropolitan Campus.

As previously announced, start of Fall semester classes is now scheduled for Thursday, September 1, with classes on normal Thursday schedule. Student move-in for freshman and transfer students is Tuesday, August 30, and returning students move-in on August 31. Please travel carefully and safely to your campus. Some New Jersey roads, especially secondary and local roads, may still be affected by road closings, flooding and other damage.

For Parents and Families

Although the start of classes has been pushed back from Monday to Thursday, some students are already on campus, including athletes, international students, students who travelled from distant states, and residence hall assistants. These students are finding that the FDU campuses are better off than many surrounding areas of New Jersey. A few campus buildings are still on generator power, but the fully functional buildings include the student centers and dining halls on both campuses. Public Safety, Facilities, and student support teams were appropriately staffed throughout the emergency period although academic and administrative staffs were not required to report to work on Monday.

The safety and comfort of our students is our first priority when they arrive on campus, and our planning will continue to reflect this as the rest of our Fall 2011 students return to campus and begin the new semester. Please Review Your FDU Alert Contact Information

During the coming days, we will continue to send important messages to you regarding FDU's schedules. We will use the FDU Alert System to send messages in voice, text message, and/or electronic mail formats, appropriate to the priority of the messages. It is important that your FDU Alert contact settings be up to date so that these messages will reach you and your family.

Please take this opportunity to review your FDU Alert information at http://www.fdu.edu/alert . In addition, you may wish to notify others who might answer your home phone number, and those whose contact information you have provided for simultaneous notification, so that they are aware of the possibility of FDU Alert messages.

Hurricane Preparation Message Dated August 25

In light of the approaching hurricane and concern for the safety of our students, faculty and staff, Fairleigh Dickinson University has decided to postpone the start of Fall semester classes and this weekend’s move-in for freshmen, transfer, and returning students.

The start of fall semester classes has been moved to Wednesday, August 31; classes will follow the normal Wednesday schedule.

Freshman and transfer student move-in will be held on Monday, August 29, beginning at 10:00 AM; and returning students will move in on Tuesday, August 30, beginning at 9:00 AM.

Students who find it ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to move in on Saturday may do so between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.  However, the University strongly encourages students not to return to campus until Monday or Tuesday.
