President’s Update — History Is Made — April 7, 2011
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
When our community comes together, we have the power to change lives and make history. We’ve done exactly that for decades, but one very dramatic milestone has just been reached. I’m honored to announce that FDU NOW, The Campaign for Fairleigh Dickinson University has surpassed its $50 million goal. In fact, total commitments to the campaign have risen above the $56 million mark!
The largest fundraising campaign in our great history, FDU NOW has made and continues to make a tremendous impact on the lives of our students. Many programs and facilities have been supported. We’ve added more than $7 million in scholarships. We’ve supported global learning and special programs like Puerta al Futuro, the Wroxton Holocaust Symposium and a new nursing doctoral program. We’ve created new science laboratories at the College at Florham, constructed the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex at the Metropolitan Campus and will soon break ground for the Monninger Center for Learning and Research at the College at Florham. We’ve dedicated and named the Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies, the Gildart Haase School of Computer Sciences and Engineering, Hennessy Hall, the Stratis Arena and the Giovatto Library. The list goes on and on.
The success of FDU NOW could not have been possible without the wonderful support of the University community. I want to thank everyone whose dedication made this possible. From our faculty, staff, alumni and friends to a skilled group of fundraisers, this was a true team effort. I particularly want to acknowledge the generosity and leadership of the Board of Trustees, led by chairman and alumnus Pat Zenner, and the Campaign Steering Committee, led by alumnus Greg Olsen. And I especially want to congratulate Senior Vice President for University Advancement Rick Reiss and his team for guiding FDU NOW to its successful conclusion.
We will officially close our campaign on June 30 and will report the final results in a special issue of FDU Magazine in September. But the end of the campaign is really just the beginning of the story. We will not rest on our laurels, and the momentum created by FDU NOW will propel us to new achievements. In fact, plans have already begun to determine the scope of the University’s next comprehensive capital campaign.
Above all, FDU NOW has been so successful because our University’s vision and values resonate with people who care about the future of our state, our nation and our world. Our University has the right mission at the right time.
Thank you for everything you do as part of the Fairleigh Dickinson University community. You are making a great difference in the lives of our students and helping them to make their mark on the world.
