Creative Writing for Educators: Residencies

Upcoming Residency dates: 

June 20-22, 2014                              June 19-21, 2015

During the three-day residencies students live on campus where they meet with instructors and participate in activities such as lectures, critical workshops, generative workshops, panel discussions, analysis seminars, and readings. There also are several hours of unscheduled time for writing and revision.

All students must begin the program by attending the residency that precedes their first semester course(s).

A schedule for a  typical Residency might look something like this:

Friday

9:00 –10:30    Registration and Orientation

10:30 - 12:00  Students meet with Reading Like a Writer instructors

12:00 - 1:00    Lunch

1:00 – 2:30     Generative Workshops (choice of: Fiction/Poetry/CNF/)

2:30 – 4:00     Panel: The Readerly vs. The Writerly – Meaning and How

4:00 – 5:30     Students meet with first Lit Course instructors

6:30 – 7:30     Dinner

Evening:         Directed Reading Discussion

 

Saturday

9:00 –10:30     Students meet with first Creative Writing & Critiquing instructors

10:30 - 12:00   Workshops: Strategies and Methods for Workshops

12:00 - 1:00     Lunch

1:00 – 2:30      Creative Workshops (student work)

2:30 – 4:00      Students meet with 2nd Lit Course instructors

4:00 – 5:30      Lecture: The Writer:The Critic

6:30 – 7:30      Dinner

Evening:          Faculty Reading

 

Sunday

9:30 –11:00     Students meet with 2nd Creative Writing & Critiquing instructors

11:00 - 12:30   Panel: TBA

12:30 - 1:30     Lunch

1:30 – 3:00      Students meet with 3rd Creative Writing & Critiquing instructors

3:00 – 4:00      Wrap-up – Q&A

Residencies are held at our campus in Madison, NJ in late June.

For 2014, the residency dates are June 20-22.

For 2015, the residency dates are June 19-21
